Jonesboro- Virgil "Eugene" Atkins, 65, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born on January 27, 1949 in St. Louis to the late Virgil Mabry Atkins and Dorothy Lucille Dennis Atkins. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. Mr. Eugene worked as an installer and repair person for Southwestern Bell and ATT. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Atkins; a son, Jason Atkins of Marion; a brother and his wife, Terry Glenn and Betty Atkins of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Martha Atkins of West Memphis; his mother-in-law, Margaret Shannon of Jonesboro. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wayne Atkins and two sisters, Yvonne Atkins and Judy Atkins. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home with Andy Neal officiating. Burial will follow at McDaniel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home, 300 W. Matthews Ave. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jamie Callahan, Charles Haggans, Larry Cook, Barry Tolson, Mike Riley and Elbert Dubar.
