Obituary

Jonesboro- Ernest "Junior" Broadaway, 92, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2019 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born August 25, 1927 in Hoxie to the late W. E. and Loda Broadaway. He was in the meat packing industry from 1946 until 1980 and was the president of Broadaway Packing Company. He was instrumental in teaching the Future Farmers of America students from Arkansas State University about the beef industry. His company gave college scholarships to many local students. He was a cattle rancher, owning Broadaway Farms in Pocahontas and was a member of the Cattleman's Association and the Kansas Livestock Association.

First and foremost, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Last but not least, he was a cowboy and could rope and ride with the very best. He won many championship roping buckles. He was a member of the International Rodeo Association. He also trained roping horses and border collies.

He is survived by a sister, Martha Secrease; his children, Ricki Broadaway, Rena Tyner (Gary), Scott Broadaway and Roger Thompson all of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren, James Schultz (Amy) of Lakeland, TN, John Schultz (Micki) of Decatur, IN, Kimberly Duarte (Jason) of Conway, Shea Helms (Ryan), Garrett Broadaway (Kaitlyn) all of Pocahontas, Jeri Broadaway (Steve), Jessica Odom (Johnathan) and Seth Broadaway all of Jonesboro; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many other family and friends. He will be missed by his four-legged buddies, Rosie and Naomi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maudine "Hanky" Broadaway; a granddaughter, Jennifer Niblick; an infant granddaughter, Amy; son, J. R. Broadaway; a sister, Alma Burk and two brothers, Beely Broadaway and Stanley Broadaway.

A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Gregg- Langford Bookout Funeral Home with Pastor Chance Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
