Weiner - Mrs. Jean Lawson Perkins Johnson, 92, passed away Tuesday at the St. Bernard's Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1928 in Weiner to the late Ben and Lona Chamness Lawson and lived
There most of her life.
Jean graduated from Weiner High School in 1946 and was an All Star Basketball player playing Guard for 4 years on the main team. Jean was known as that long legged blonde. She was a licensed beautician for many years and was a member of the Weiner Christian Church where she was involved in the Ladies Council and Monday morning Bible study.. She was also a member of the Weiner Lions Club and a strong supporter of the Weiner Rice Festival and loved sewing and antiques.
She moved to St. Louis after marrying Clifford Perkins and then moved back and went to work for the GE Company in Jonesboro and retired from GE. She later met and married E.G. Johnson and moved to Jonesboro until E.G. passed away then Jean moved back to Weiner and built her home which she dearly loved next to her best friend, Leona Gardner for 17 years.
She is survived by her Nephew and Niece, Jerry and Vickie Strickland of Jonesboro; a Great Nephew and Niece, Jerry Denny Strickland III and Johnna Strickland Dobbs of Jonesboro; adopted family, Michael and Savien Riley of Macon, GA.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Perkins and two husbands, Clifford Perkins and E. G. Johnson.
A celebration of her life will be 11 am Friday at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Mitch Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro.
Visitation will be from 10 am until service time at the funeral home.
Honored to service as pallbearers will be Todd Gardner, Kyle Gardner, Gene Winters and Ronnie Reed.
Lasting memorials may be sent to the Weiner Christian Church.
