Elwanda Long Norwood, 84, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. Born November 3, 1941, she lived a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelia Roberts and Katherine “Kathy” Gartman; her son, Franklin “Buddy” Barnett Jr.; her grandchildren, Candace, Heather, Alex (Courtney), Franklin, Kristin, Whitney, Jennifer, and Laci (Eric); and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley McDaniel; and brothers, Harold Long (Kathy) and Stanley Long (Wanda), all of Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Darrell Franklin Long; her parents, Whetsel Franklin and Omah Lucille Mott; and her husbands, James Darrell Norwood and Franklin Morrow Barnett.
A devoted member of Central Baptist Church in Trumann, Elwanda lived with a generous spirit and strong faith. She retired from DuPont after years of dedicated service and, alongside her late husband Darrell, co-owned DWN Trucking, taking pride in the life and business they built together.
Elwanda found joy in traveling, reading, gardening, dancing, and spending time at the lake. She especially loved family gatherings, where laughter, good food, and lasting memories were abundant. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her giving heart, and her unwavering love for her family.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9,2026 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel, with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery following services.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Alex Roberts, Eric Steimel, Zack Barnett, Jacob McDaniel, Stephen Long, and Gary Warner. Franklin Barnett will be an honorary pallbearer.
