Obituary

Dr. Dennis L. Bubrig, II (Denny), 51, of Hattiesburg, MS passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 after battling stage four gastric adenocarcinoma.

A native of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Denny was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He spent over twenty years in higher education administration which enabled him to live across the United States including in Bowling Green, OH, Birmingham, AL, Austin, TX, and Martin, TN, to name a few.

Denny was active in numerous professional associations in higher education serving in local, regional, and national leadership roles. He was the recipient of several honors in his professional career highlighted by the Distinguished Service Key from the Alpha Phi Omega chapter at Bowling Green State University. He also had a second career with a local news affiliate. Locally, he was involved in Rotary International, the Oak Grove Middle School Archery Boosters, the Oak Grove High School Band Boosters, Heritage Church, and the Boy Scouts of America/Scouting America Programs, amongst others. He was an Eagle Scout, District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver Award honoree. He was also a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do under the Tiger Rock Martial Arts Academy where he served as a Certified Instructor.

Denny is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and the lights of his life, his three sons, Collier, Ellis, and Flynn. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather Lee (Nina) Bubrig of Covington, LA, and numerous aunts and uncles including Thomas Reynolds, II and his wife, Sarah, of Broken Arrow, OK; Tom and Kathy Susor of Smithdale, MS; Bill and Patty Lindsey of Smithdale, MS; and Rick and Carolyn Bubrig of Folsom, LA. He is also survived by special family members, Betty Bubrig and James and Danielle Roberts, along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Dr. Sandra Reynolds Bubrig and his father Dennis L. Bubrig, I as well as his maternal grandparents Thomas and Betty Reynolds and paternal grandmother Florence (Flossie) Bowers Bubrig.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 12 at 10 a.m. at Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas, AR. Pallbearers are Thomas Reynolds, II, Thomas Reynolds, III, Nick Wren, Ben Roberts, Matthew Roberts, and James Roberts.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 13 in the outdoor chapel at Heritage Church in Hattiesburg, MS. The family will begin accepting visitors at 3:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 4:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair as seating is limited in the outdoor chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Burr Area Scout Council (Hattiesburg, MS), Heritage Church (Hattiesburg, MS), University of Southern Mississippi ESports Program, or the American Cancer Society.
