OAKLAND CITY, IN-Rev. Dorris Kerby, 88, left his earthly life to shout all over God's heaven at 6:53 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN. He retired as a union pipe fitter and welder in the construction industry in 1985. He was a member of UA Local 136 of Evansville for forty years. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during WWII, where he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Service Award. He was a member of the American Legion Post 256 at Oakland City. He was ordained as a minister in 1977 and served as a part-time evangelist and interim pastor from 1977 to 2000. He was a member of the Mackey Church of the Nazarene in Mackey, IN. He served on the Board of Directors for Doulos Family Services in Princeton, IN for seven years. Additionally, he was an accomplished custom quilt designer and maker, having produced hundreds of special quilts, some of which are in foreign countries. He was born in Bogota, IL to Edgar James Kerby and Katie (Cravens) Kerby on October 4, 1919. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eldon and Allen Kerby. Rev. Kerby is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Lucille (Martin) Kerby of Oakland City, two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert (Beverly) Kerby of Rockford, IL and Raymond (Linda) Kerby of Phoenix, AZ, two daugters and sons-in-law, Myrna (Randy) Lemmons of Oakland City and Marilyn (Cleatus) Jones of Mt. Vernon, IN, an adopted son and daughter-in-law Mike (Gina) Jones of Owensville, IN. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Snider and Kathy Wood, both of Snohomish, WA, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of very special close friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 1, 2007 at the McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas from noon until 2pm with services at 2pm. Rev. Bill L. Reed, pastor of the Mackey Church of The Nazarene will officiate. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas with military rites provided of Promberger-Traw Post 4556 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and nephews as honorary pallbearers.
