Mr. Dennis Earl Lewis of Harrisburg, formerly of Jonesboro, departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, at the age of 71.
He was born May 15, 1955, in Memphis, TN, the son of the late Roy Avron Lewis and Bobbie Jean Hall Lewis.
Dennis was raised in West Memphis and graduated from West Memphis High School in 1973. Following high school, he attended ASU where he joined the ROTC and received a commission in the U.S. Army in 1978. He graduated from ASU in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. During his four years in the Army, Dennis went through Airborne training and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. After four years, he returned to ASU and got his teaching certificate and began a teaching career that lasted 37 years. He taught Math at the White Station High School in Memphis for 33 years before retiring in 2015. He came out of retirement and went back to teaching at Trumann High School in 2021 and had to stop again due to health reasons in 2025. He married Margaret Weston in 1982 and they enjoyed 44 years together. Dennis was actively involved in the Jonesboro Athletic Boosters for many years and was a member of the Harrisburg Church of Christ. He enjoyed spending all the time he could with his grandkids and great grandkids, and when physically able enjoyed traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy David Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Lewis of the home, four children, Michael Jones and his wife Melissa of Campbell Hill, IL, Debbie Melton and her husband Gary of Marion, Jennifer Loar and her husband Jarred of Ward, and Kimberly Williams and her husband Mark of Portland, ME, two sisters, Linda Lewis of Jonesboro and Donna Lewis of Wagner, OK, twelve grandchildren, Payton Denault and his fiancée Katy, Gavin Wilkes, Austin Jones, Kelsey Jeffers and her husband Travis, Mallory Jones, Parker Wilkes, Chance Nicholas and his wife Megan, Tatum Erauw and her husband Ethan, Gage Loar and his wife Ally, Trip Loar, Avron Williams, and Carver Williams, and two great grandchildren, Emmery Nicholas and Choice Nicholas.
Funeral services have been set for 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg. Mr. Brock Kendall and Mr. Mark Weston will officiate. Interment will follow in the AR State Veteran’s Cemetery at Birdeye with Military Honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Chance Nicholas, Gary Melton, DeWayne Brasfield, Anthony Weston, and Grant Whittingham. The men of the Harrisburg Church of Christ will be honorary pallbearers.
