Obituary

Walnut Ridge- David Monroe Smith Sr.-82, passed away on Tuesday, June 18th, at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. Monroe was born on December 20, 1930 to Fred and Pearl Smith. He lived his entire life in Lawrence County; calling Alicia, Black Rock, and Walnut Ridge home. He was a Christian and of Methodist faith. Monroe was in the US Navy from 1955-1957, after his service to our country; Monroe followed his father's footsteps and began farming. He had a strong work eithic and a love of the land, that he instilled in his boys. He was passionate about his family and a big fan of NASCAR. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Pearl Smith, wife Barbara Arnold Baker Smith, brothers Cecil, Millard and John. Sisters Alice Baker and Ruby Grisby. He is survived by significant other Barbara Davis Clark of the home, sons David wife Jennifer of Jonesboro, Charles wife Leigh of Memphis, step-daughter Danetta Townsdin husband Steve of Memphis, Brother Larry and wife Rhoda of Hoxie, sister Delena Webb of Springfield. Peepaw is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Andrew, Kyle, Morgan, James, and Joel. He also leaves behind many friends and family. Visitation will be Friday June 21, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m at the First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge, AR. Services will be Saturday June 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge, AR. Burial will follow at Stranger's Home Cemetery in Alicia. Under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas, AR. Pallbearers will be his nephews on the Smith side: Tom Smith, Jeff Webb, Johnny Smith, Kenny Smith, Alex Smith, Alan Smith, Barry Smith, Rick Grigsby, Rayford Grigsby. In lieu for flowers, the family would like you to consider a lasting gift. Please send memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Walnut Ridge or Stranger's Home Cemetery
