Mr. David P. Owens of Harrisburg, departed this life Sunday at the Woodbriar Nursing Home in Harrisburg, at the age of 77.

He was born April 22, 1945 in Huntsville, AL the son of the late Clarence Owens and Doris Henson Owens.

He married Joyce Ann Stanford on March 21, 1965 and they enjoyed 53 years before her death in 2018. After high school David cooked with Roy Garrett's BBQ in Jonesboro. He then began a 42-year career with Atlas Asphalt and retired with them in 2014.  After retiring, David began helping Fonda Eaton with maintenance with her rental properties and continued that until his health would no longer allow that.  He was very instrumental in starting up Big O's BBQ in Harrisburg and thoroughly enjoyed visiting people.

He is survived by two sons, David Owens (Alicia) and Timmy Owens, both of Harrisburg, one daughter, Amy West of Harrisburg, 11 grandchildren, Zachary Owens (Sarrah) of Jonesboro, Heath Owens (Allison) of Harrisburg, Brittney Smith (Kenny) of Pocahontas, Trevor Owens (Chandler) of Harrisburg, Wyatt Owens of Harrisburg, Amber Pretty (Zach) of Harrisburg, Jocelyn Owens of Harrisburg, Peyton McCoy of Jonesboro, Paige Owens of Jonesboro, Jalen Chappell of Walnut Ridge and Alex Chappell of Walnut Ridge, and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Lindsey officiating.  Interment will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery.  Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday, Noon-1:00 p.m.  Pallbearers will be Heath Owens, Zach Owens, Steve Davidson, Patty Shelton, Trevor Owens, Joey Bogard and Steven Posey.  Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Barnett, Art Dixon, Paul Miller, Shane Reeves, Don Smith and Staff at Woodbriar Nursing Home.
