He was involved in many community organizations in Jonesboro including the Chamber of Commerce, the University Heights Lions Club, the Craighead County Republicans Committee, and the Jonesboro Jaycees. D.B. and some of his friends were instrumental in establishing the Y.M.C.A. and Abilities Unlimited, and he received many state and local awards and honors for his volunteerism.
