Obituary

Mrs. Daisy Senteney Matthews, of Weiner, Arkansas, was born on May 19, 1940, in in Jonesboro, AR, the daughter of the late Chester and Belva Huber Senteney.

A lifelong resident of the Weiner Community, Daisy graduated from Weiner High School in 1958 before pursuing her passion for education. She attended what is now Arkansas State University, where she earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Education. Daisy spent ten years in education, serving as both a teacher and principal, before joining her husband, Joe, in the family business, Weiner Fertilizer Company. Later, she retired to a life of farming and family.

Daisy shared 55wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Joe Matthews, who preceded her in death in 2017. A woman of deep faith, she was a charter member of the Weiner Christian Church and held the special distinction of being only the second person ever married within its walls.

Daisy’s love of learning never faded. Reading was one of her greatest passions, and she remained an avid reader throughout her life. She was outspoken, honest, and never afraid to speak her mind. Her granddaughter and great grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She was proud of her son, Scott, for carrying on the family farm and for his many accomplishments in agriculture.

More than anything, Daisy loved her life. She was grateful for the family she built, the community she called home, and the beautiful marriage she shared with Joe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Belva Senteney; her sister, Martha Senteney; and her beloved husband, Joe Matthews.

She is survived by her son, Scott Matthews and his wife, Susan; her granddaughter, Megan Turner and her husband, Allen; and her great grandchildren, Anna Joe Turner and Matthew Allen Turner, all of Weiner.

A Graveside Funeral has been set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25th, at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner, with Brother Ben Stover officiating. There will be no visitation prior to services. Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg has been entrusted with all arrangements.
