Obituary

Claud Earl Barnett Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, and pillar of the Monette community passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on August 7, 1927, in Monette, Claud Earl dedicated his early life to serving his country as a proud member of the United States Navy and a World War II veteran.

After his military service, Claud Earl met and married the love of his life, Freddie Glendeen Honnoll. Their remarkable union spanned 76 years until her passing in January 2023. Together they built a beautiful family, raising three children: Janette Cockrum Redman (Mel Redman) of Hot Springs, C.E. Barnett Jr. (Toni Barnett, deceased) of Tontitown, and Nickki Barnett Golden (Todd Golden) of Fayetteville. Claud Earl was a devoted grandfather to Dr. Holly Cockrum of North Little Rock and Lance Cockrum of Hot Springs, Lindsay Barnett and Chase Barnett (deceased), and Hannah Golden (Nolan Quinn) of Fayetteville. He was a proud great grandfather to Brandon Nelson and Savannah Nelson, both of North Little Rock.

Mr. Barnett moved to Monette in 1958, where he began his career at Western Auto Store on Main Street. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to Frank’s Autoparts in Monette. Claud and Glendeen purchased Frank’s Autoparts in 1968, owning and operating Barnett’s Autoparts until 1999. Beyond his professional life, Claud Earl was deeply committed to his community, serving many years with the Monette Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the VFW in Monette, Arkansas. He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Monette. Claud and Glendeen were devoted fans of the Buffalo Island Basketball team and attended every home game. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 2pm at Monette Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Reed officiating. Visitation will be held at 1pm. Burial will follow in Monette Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements were entrusted to Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

Honored to serve him as pallbearers are Keith Haddock, Terry Edwars, Barry LaFarlette, David Clark, Todd Golden, and Lance Cockrum. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Earnhart, and members of the Abner-Blankenship American Legion Post #136.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Buffalo Island Basketball Team and players, or flowers are welcome.
