Obituary

Jonesboro-Chester Lavaughn Derr, 84, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born April 1, 1930 in Hutchison, Kansas to the late harry and Pearl Parks Derr. Mr. Derr was a member of the Greensboro Road Church of Christ. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. He worked for Southern Wood Box Factory for thirty-one years and Arkansas Glass before retiring. He is survived by his children, Patricia Smith of Batesville, Lavaughn Derr of Jonesboro, Terry Derr of Dallas and Mary Mills of Jonesboro; two sisters, Imogene White of St. Louis and Willene Collins of Clovis, New Mexico; a brother and his wife, Hershel and Brenda Derr of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Desmond Mills, Jordan Mills, Cheyanne Green, Lawrence Derr, Tonya Templin, Kristy Riley and Angela Smith; six great-grandchildren, Shaun Templin, Sara Templin, Allison Riley, Chasity Riley, Alexis McLeod and Brandon Paluck; a great-great-grandchild, Karmen Templin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Bernice Collins Derr; a son, Robert Derr; a son-in-law, Roy Smith; a great-grandchild, Kayden Riley. A celebration of his life will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Gregg Langford Bookout Funeral Home with Mark Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Randy Oden, Marvin Parks, Butch Parks, Billy Parks, Paul Parks and Ethan Gibson and as honorary pallbearer, Jimmy Felts.
