Charles Ray "Pops" Mitchell Sr., 71, of Pocahontas passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
He was born March 4, 1949 in Pocahontas to the late Fred and Delilah Judy Farr Mitchell. He was a veteran of the Marines, a riverboat captain and member of Elnora Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Delilah Judy Mitchell; son, Charles Mitchell, Jr; and daughter, Misty Barnett.
Charles is survived by his wife, Geneva June Horton Mitchell; daughter, Tina (Thomas) Mathenia of Jonesboro, daughter in law, Shelley Mitchell of Brookland; six grandchildren, Colby (Meggi) Mitchell of Maynard, Ashton (Anthony) Burgess of Pocahontas, Cathlyn Moore of Jonesboro, Breanna (Dylan Marsh) Skimahorn of Brookland, Austin Barnett of Pocahontas, and Kasey Barnett of Pocahontas; four great grandchildren, Cambree and Caven Moore, and Rylee and Ryder Burgess; two brothers, Dickie Mitchell of Imboden and Randy Mitchell of Cherokee Village; two sisters, Erma (Utt) Warf of Milan, Tennessee and Gayla (Mike) Kincade of Imboden; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has been chosen as the method of final disposition. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 9 AM at Elnora Freewill Baptist Church. A memorial service will begin at 10 AM with Gene Cullum and Jeral Dean officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Chesser Cemetery.
To follow the directives of Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, masks covering the mouth and nose are required for all persons in Arkansas for all indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to non-household members where social distancing cannot be assured. Those attending will also be asked to sign a contact registry and maintain a social distance
