Charles Dennis Layton, Sr. of Livingston, TX and Washington, UT, returned to his Heavenly Father of September 30, 2012 after a long battle with Cancer. Charlie was born June 17, 1948 in Engleberg, AR to James Dennis (J.D.) and Myrtle Irene Davis Layton. Charlie was raised with 2 brothers in Engleberg, AR on his family's farm, where he learned the value of hard work. After graduating from high school, he attended an Auto, diesel and welding school in Nashville, TN, and worked in a shipping yard as a mechanic. He married, raised 2 boys, ran a tire store in Blanchard, TX and for 6 years. served in the National Guard. Charlie's love for travel led him to Pipelining for over 26 years, starting as a laborer, operator and working his way up to Coating Foreman. Charlie loved noodling for catfish and gigging for frogs, he enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially catfish, hush puppies and pancakes. He loved Nascar, gardening and making wood toys. Charlie took a special interest in helping some of his young pipeliner friends, reaching out to and encouraging them. He never judged people, just accepted them for who they were. He was affectionately known as "King Charlie" or "Whiskers" to his fellow pipeliners, and considered them family'. Charlie and his sweetheart Debbie were married in Daton, Texas in 1992. They traveled the pipeline circuit for 20 years, making new friends and raising Charlene and Dennis. Debbie and the kids settled back into their Utah home, joining Charlie during spring breaks and most holidays until he became ill in November of 2011. He fought a valiant battle and leaves behind many heartbroken family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Zelda Irene Layton. Charlie is survived by the love of his life, Deborah Layton of the home, children: two sons from a previous marriage, Charles "Chip" Layton, Jr. of Pocahontas, and Ronald and wife Kim Layton of Carey, N.C. Judith Campbell of Hurricane, UT, Charlene Layton of Washington, UT and Dennis Layton of Washington, UT; brothers, James and wife Linda Layton of Engleberg, AR, Michael and wife Cindy Layton of Maynard and 4 grandchildren. And is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held Monday night from 5-7 p.m with a 7 o'clock rosary following in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church in Engleberg with Father Anthanius Okeiyi officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
