Obituary

Jonesboro- Charles Nolan "Charlie" Barnett, 78, died January 9, 2015, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro due to complications from pneumonia. Charles was born September 6, 1936 in Bay to Bera Blanche Morrow Barnett and Vernal Etheltra Barnett. Mr. Barnett graduated from Searcy High School in 1954 and Arkansas State College (Now ASU-Beebe) in 1956 with an Associate degree in business before moving to Memphis and then to California to work for Anderson-Clayton Cotton Company. He returned to Jonesboro in 1964 to join the family business, Barnett Construction. Mr. Barnett also assisted his father in their family-owned carriage company, Arkansas Village, which produced the horse-drawn wagons for the 1976 Bi-Centennial Wagon Train that travelled across the United States. Mr. Barnett was an avid reader, WWII aviation and history enthusiast, mechanic extraordinaire and football fan, as well as a loving father and grandfather. Survivors include his mother, Bera Blanche Morrow Barnett; children, Luann Barnett Williams of Austin, TX, Lisa Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Mike (Barbara) Barnett, Janet Barnett, John Barnett, and their mother, Kathryn Barnett, all of Jonesboro, Carrie Barnett-Rodriguez (Gilbert), of Jonesboro, and Chris (Kelli) Barnett of Denton, Texas; step-children, Jamie Dickerson (Wendall) of Atlanta,Michelle Slabaugh (Mike) and Vicki McAllister (Craig) of Wynne, Lisa Forrest (Bobby) of Jonesboro, Laura Hutto (Rick) of Brentwood, Tennessee, Tommy Lovrien Jr (MaryAnn) of Jonesboro;; siblings, Ann Merrell, Gene (Kay) Barnett, Fred (Gayle) Barnett and Linda Robinson, all of Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren. Mr. Barnett is preceded in death by father, Vernal Etheltra Barnett; brother, Franklin Morrow Barnett, and wives, Jackie Trusty Barnett and Patty Pugh Barnett. Services will be held 10:00 am Tues., January 13, 2015 at Gregg-Langford-Bookout Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery. The family will accept friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home at 300 W. Matthews Ave in Jonesboro. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Alan Simpson, David Stotts, Don Merrell, David Merrell, Ryker Robinson and Gilbert Rodriguez. Anthony Eggrs and Buddy Barrnett will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
