Obituary

Jonesboro- Carolyn Ann Trantham, 89, departed from this world on October 8, 2022 to be reunited with her dear husband, Charles Campbell Trantham, in heaven. She was born to the late Jack and Tillie Gipson, a farmer and a homemaker, in Walnut Ridge on September 19th, 1933.

She began her career at Lawrence Memorial Hospital as a medical record technician, she went on to serve as Director of Medical records at Helena Regional Medical Center, where she also served on several hospital boards. She continued her career in healthcare by directing the implementation of medical records in rural mental health clinics across a three county region of South Arkansas.  She retired from this position in Helena in 2001 before moving to Jonesboro with her husband to be near family.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. A basketball player in her high school days, she was an avid sports fan who followed Arkansas sports teams to discuss statistics with her grandchildren. She enjoyed nature and treasured Sunday afternoon country drives with family.  She loved playing card games and board games with her children and grandchildren, and loved a good-natured competition.  She is known by her family for her laughter, quick wit, and sense of humor. She lived her life to the fullest, imparting many lessons through her example. She will be greatly missed, but comfort is had in knowing that Charlie and Carolyn are reunited.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Trantham of fifty-eight years, and her brothers, Jerry Gipson and Jimmy Gipson.

She is survived by her four children, Chuck Trantham (Susan) of Fayetteville, Charlotte (Stephen) Greenwood of Jonesboro, Beverly (Kurt) Kummer of Bristol, Tennessee, Cynthia (Bill) Talley of Jonesboro; her brother, Jack (Polly) Gipson of Memphis, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. John Miles officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
