Carlton Eddie Hennings of Maynard passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Mr. Hennings was born on April 7, 1941, in rural Randolph County, Arkansas, to Naomi and Robert Hennings. After graduating from Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana, he joined the United States Air Force. On June 23, 1967, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Etheredge. He retired from the Air Force in 1982 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He is remembered by friends and family as a proud patriot and servant of his country. An avid outdoorsman, he spent many happy days in Randolph County hunting and fishing, and he was a fierce advocate for conservation. He enjoyed playing softball, and was an excellent pitcher. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. As a volunteer at Maynard Elementary School and active member of Witt's Chapel Baptist Church, he was beloved by his community. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Etheredge Hennings of Maynard, AR; son, Carlton Hennings, Jr., of Biggers, AR; daughter, Leah Hennings, of Little Rock, AR; grandson, Kevin Hennings of Biggers; two granddaughters: Charlotte Leigh of Mt. Home, ID, and Rebecca Rainwater of Little Rock; and a great-grandaughter, Pandora Rose Leigh of Mt. Home, ID. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Hennings of Warner Robbins, GA; his Aunt, Ina Bland of Maynard, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Jim and Clifford; and a sister, Verna. In place of flowers, the family encourages donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his honor. Visitation will be held at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas on Wednesday, March 7, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 8, at Witt's Chapel Baptist Church with Bruce Stone officiating. Mr. Hennings will be cremated directly after.
