Obituary

Mrs. Bonnie Bennett, of Jonesboro, departed this life Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 89.

She was born March 10, 1930 in Parkin, Arkansas, the daughter of the late William Wood and Mary Green Wood.

Mrs. Bennett was retired from ASU after serving as secretary in the Food Services for 35 years. She was a gifted seamstress, an excellent cook, and loved gardening. She married Lafayette L. Bennett on October 22, 1955 and they enjoyed 60 years together before his death in 2016. She was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gilmore Wood, Leslie Wood, Williard Wood, and Wayne Buchanon "Buck" Wood, and by one sister, Huetta "Sis" Ratliff.

She is survived by one daughter, Marcia Elder (Collin) of Jonesboro, one brother, Hamp Wood (Pat) of Waldenburg, two grandchildren, Micah Putman (Dr. Rhyne) of New Orleans, LA and Bryan Elder of Jonesboro, and two great grandchildren, Bennett "Ben" Putman and Anne Kathryn Putman.

Funeral services have been set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Walnut Street Baptist Church with Dr. Rhyne Putman officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Jim Ellis, Jim Gillis, Larry Dunkerson, Joe Pierce, Phillip Gay and Charles Layne.

Memorials can be made to the Walnut Street Baptist Church or to Gideons International.
