Obituary

Brookland, Bobby Howard Banks, 85, passed away on May 27, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 30, 1939, in Bay, to the late Lena and Sylivia Abbie Kimberland Banks.

Bobby was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent  seven years serving in the Arkansas Army National Guard, then went on to work 34 years at Arkansas Glass Container Corporation before retiring. His leadership and passion for advocacy shone brightly through his 21 years of service as Union President for the AFL-CIO Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics, and Allied Workers International Union.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bobby was a beloved member of Jonesboro Worship Center, where his faith guided his life and actions. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own Goobertown Grocery Store for many years, becoming a familiar and cherished figure in the community.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Rosalie Golden Banks of the home; two sons, Joe (Kim) Banks of Brookland and Jeremy (Quincey) Banks of Pleasant Plains; a daughter, Penny Kissee of Jonesboro; five brothers, Harles Banks of Bay, Doyle Banks of Trumann, Jerry Banks of Bay, Gary Banks of Jonesboro and Ricky Banks of Beedville; a sister, Betty Banks of Bay; 10 grandchildren, Ashley (John) Davis, Lauren (Joey Prothero) Clayton, Josh (Amber) Banks, Tristian Banks, Corey Gearhart, Allie Banks, Bailey Imming, Ashton Kissee, Farrah Banks, and Jolie Banks; eight greatgrandchildren, Karleigh Baskin, Greyson Davis, Piper Banks, Beckston Davis, Hattie Banks, Jagger Banks, Oaklynn Banks and Archer Steele.

Bobby was preceded in death by two brothers, J.V Banks and Roy Banks; one sister, Geneva Merideth, and grandson Kyle Banks.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday May 31, 2025 starting at 11 AM with Reverand Marty Spurlock and Reverand Harles Banks officiating. Visitation will be before the service from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Chapel. The burial will be in Pine Log Cemetery following the service.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Meridith, Brian Banks, John Davis, Corey Gearhart, Tristian Banks, Josh Banks, and Bailey Imming

In his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Bobby leaves behind a legacy of strong work ethic as well as a legacy of what love and family truly mean. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
