Weiner- Billy Joe Summers Sr., 90, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

He was born July 22, 1928 in Flint, Michigan to the late William and Helen Lovett Summers and raised in the Grubbs and Long Creek communities. Billy served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He also was a member of the Weiner Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He had worked at Riceland Foods in Weiner for over thirty-five years. He loved to garden and give his crops away. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother and pepaw.

He was survived by his children and their spouses, Debbie and Frank Garlett of Sherwood, Susan and Dennis White of Harrisburg and Bill and Michelle Summers Jr. of Jonesboro; two sisters, June Rily of Nevada and Shirley Kieffer of St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jason White (Elizabeth) of Conway, Jessica White of Russellville, Jayme Nyborg (Craig) and Austin Summers (Sommer) all of Austin, Madison Purtteman (Chanley) of Brookland, Morgan Speer and Madison Speer both of Jonesboro; six great-grandchildren, Carson "Ace", Claire "Mac", Paislee "Little Peanut", Harper "Angel", Emersyn "Em" and Abilene "Little Jo"; and many other family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marcelle Honey and Pat White and a brother, Bobby Summers.

A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Mitchell Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Tyler Sitzer, Keith Houchin, Steve Meridith, Paul Carter, Steven Chaplain and Jeff Chaplain and as honorary pallbearers the Weiner Volunteer Fire Department.
