Obituary

Mr. Billy Ray Cooper of Harrisburg, departed this life Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO at the age of 77. He was born July 16, 1937 in Trumann, AR, the son of Alvin Ray Cooper and Maggie Jewell Pruett Cooper. Billy was a farmer the majority of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of Harrisburg High School and a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church. He was very active in his community, having served as a Poinsett County Justice of the Peace, a constable for the Greenfield Township, a former member of the Harrisburg Jaycees and the Harrisburg Lion's Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the Harrisburg VFW and a former Comannder of Post 14 American Legion in Harrisburg. He married Sue Carole Wilson on July 27, 1958 and they enjoyed 56 years together before her death on October 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sue, a daughter, Sherri and a grandson Gatlin. He is survived by three sons, Perry Cooper of Fairfield Bay, Wilson Cooper of Greenfield, and Micky Todd Cooper of Harrisburg, three brothers, Larry Cooper (Shirley) of Jonesboro, Gary Cooper (Bobbie) of Jonesboro, and Mike Cooper (Becky) of Harrison, three sisters, Anna Sue Pankey of Memphis, TN, Joan Gasman (Bill) of Joshua Tree, CA, and Brenda Motz of Southaven, MS, five grandchildren, Tyler Cooper, Trevor Cooper, Victoria Cooper, Heather Cooper, and Malory Cooper, and two great grandchildren, Eakin Williams and Bentley Luther. Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Criner officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Greg Reddmann, Bryce Flanigan, Rod Parks, Hershel Flanigan, Kurt Johns, and Larry Klein. Honorary pallbearers will be the Harrisburg VFW and Post 14 American Legion. Those wishing to send memorials are asked to consider Greenfield Baptist Church.
