Obituary

Jonesboro- Billy Joe "Pete" Roddy, 89, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born January 12, 1929 in Jonesboro to the late Walter Joe and Bonnie Nisbett Roddy and lived his early years in Monette. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War as a sergeant with Company L, 164th Infantry Regiment 47th Division and received a Bronze Star. He also served on the Jonesboro City Council. He had worked at Colson, Case International, owned Monette Implement and was a farmer. Pete was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed talking business, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Roddy was a deacon for many years at Nettleton Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Mary Louise Roddy of Jonesboro; son, Joe Kent Roddy of Jonesboro; two granddaughters, Maegan Moore (Eric) of Jonesboro and Madison Gericke (Dean) of Dallas; a great-granddaughter, Avery Moore; two sisters, Sadie Berg of Jonesboro and Peggy Jumper of Memphis and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Roddy; a son, David Roddy and three sisters, Laura Jean Watson, Patsy Spurlock and Margaret Ratliff.

A celebration of his life will be 1:00 pm Monday, November 12, 2018 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stan Ballard and Tony Berry officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
