Jonesboro- Bill Gilmer, 64, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018.
He owned and operated Gilmer Construction fore the last 25 years with his son, Brian and his grandsons, Matthew, Saxton and Riley. Family was very important to him. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He wanted to make sure that they all knew how to drive a tractor and the boys how to operate heavy equipment and to hunt. He enjoyed all different types of animals. His pride and joy was raising mules and cows with his brother Bud.
He enjoyed going deer hunting with Scott, Brian, grandchildren and his friends. Bill liked to travel, he and his wife has been all over the United States and Canada. He would always chew tobacco and had grape cigars. Bill never met a stranger. He would help anyone in need. He was a loving, hardworking, humble and giving man. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Johnne Gilmer; his children, Scott Gilmer (Vickie), Brian Gilmer (Kristen Brady) and Rachel Gilmer; seven grandchildren, Michael Blount, Jessica Gilmer, Breanna Gilmer, Matthew Gilmer, Taylor Gilmer, Saxton Gilmer and Riley Gilmer; a great-grandchild, Cohen Gilmer; two sisters, Helen Gilmer Jones (Roger) and Margaret Gilmer Newson (Greg); a brother, Bud Gilmer; a cousin, Larry Gilmer of Chicago; many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ella Mae Gilmer and a brother, Michael Gilmer.
A memorial visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, August 20, 2018 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
