Jonesboro- Betty Jeanne Wheatley, 95, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born December 13, 1921 in Jonesboro. She was the oldest child of Judge Archer Wheatley and Nellie Thaxton Wheatley.
Betty Jeanne grew up and lived most of her life in the family home on Madison Street in Jonesboro. She enjoyed telling stories about growing up there and how things had changed over the years. She was an avid bird watcher and was a long time member of the local Audubon Society. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, active on many committees continuing into her nineties. She was blessed with relatively good health until her final years when she moved from her home into assisted living.
Betty Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donald A. Wheatley and a nephew, Don Wheatley.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Evelyn H. Wheatley of Kennett, Missouri: her nephew, LTC (Ret) Alvis Wheatley and his wife Kay of Coldwater, Tennessee and her grandnephews Alex Wheatley of Portland, Oregon and Dr. Ben Wheatley of Washington, D.C.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home.
A celebration of her life will be 2:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
