Obituary

Beatrice Virginia Sue Carter, 92 years and six days old, of Jonesboro, left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Saturday, July 4, 2026. She was born on June 28, 1934 in Russellville, the oldest of six children born to Earl and Georgia Metz.

Mom left a legacy of kindness to others, love for family and friends, her faithfulness to her Savior Jesus Christ, and a deep desire to help others when she could.

One of her greatest desire and effort was to lead people to know Jesus. She had been a member of the Church of God starting out in the old town of Nettleton in her teen age years. She taught many classes there, especially children’s and teenage classes. She was responsible for many activities and functions which included ice cream socials, hayrides, fund raisers, vacation bible school, potlucks, and many more activities,

Church is where she met her husband of 53 years, Wallace Carter. They were married on March 2, 1951 and that union lasted until his death on March 30, 2004. Their union produced two sons, Ed in 1952 and Dennis in 1954.

Mom had many talents which were enjoyed by many people over the years. She was an outstanding seamstress and provided many items for those such as children, seniors, who were unable to do for themselves, some in hospitals and nursing homes.

Mom was outstanding cook, always at church functions, as well as places where she worked, people always wanted to know what she as bringing. As far as the family was concerned, everything was her specialty. Her chicken and dumplings were tops and her fried chicken was always crispy and tender. People would gladly pay her to make them “divinity with lots of pecans.” Her cake specialties were German Chocolate and Pineapple Upside down cake. Mon was also a good food preserver. She loved to can foods such as pork sausage, chicken, beef, and deer, but she was excellent at canning vegetable, and her specialty was sweet pickle chinks.

Mom was always proud she could work and help support the family; mom was raised on a farm and did a lot of farm work. In her teen years she hoed and picked a lot of cotton and was always helping in hog killing time. She worked several businesses in Jonesboro including Frolic Footwear. She was the manager of Quality Stamp Store and retired from General Electric.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wallace J. Carter; a son, Dennis Carter; a sister, Violet Garrett; and brothers, Dwain and Gerald Metz.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Ed (Ardie) Carter of Jonesboro; two sisters, Shirley (Leon) Adams and Brenda (Charles) Tackett; grandchildren, Katrina Weir of Bay, David (Amy) of Pea Ridge, a bonus grandson, Mike (Brandi) Samuels of Paragould, and five great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers of the Springs Nursing Center in Jonesboro and for her church family and their prayers.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for considering St. Judes Childresn Research Hospital or The Rock of NEA Church. All services for mom are private.
