Jonesboro- Barbara Iceal Atkins, formerly Marianna, passed away at her residence on September 16, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born in Harrisburg, on November 11, 1948, to Samuel Allen and Margaret Iceal Bedwell Shannon.

Barbara graduated from Futrall High School in 1966, became a homemaker before working at Walmart for 17 years, retiring in 2009. She was an active member of Temple Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed volunteering in the church's clothes closet. Barbara also loved visiting Branson and spending time with her church community.

She is survived by her son, Jason Atkins; sister-in-law, Margaret Shannon, of Glenco; brother-in-law, Glenn Atkins (Betty) of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil Eugene Atkins; and her brother, Gary Dewayne Shannon.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Andy Neal officiating. She will be laid to rest in McDaniel Cemetery following services.

Honored to serve as pallbearers include Gary Shannon Jr., Jeffrey Bell, Garrett Johnson, and Joey Bell. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Temple Baptist Church, the Ambassador Sunday School small group, Caleb Shannon, and Ryan Shannon.
