Obituary

Jonesboro- Audrey Mae Cox, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 95 on Tuesday morning at Craighead Nursing Center.

She was born May 3, 1924 in Jonesboro to WA and Maggie Herron Gilbert. She was the only girl out of nine children. Audrey grew up during the Great Depression. She picked cotton, worked in fields, gardened, cooked and sewed clothes for herself and even shirts for her boys. Her greatest love was her family. She loved her three sons and her husband of forty-eight years, Albert Gordon Cox "AG". She fixed supper every night until she was 85 years old. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She was a member of Friendly Hope Baptist Church. Her favorite passage in the Bible was the twenty-third Psalm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. G. "Tink" Cox; brothers, Jack Gilbert, Ralph Gilbert, Travis Gilbert, Bill Gilbert, Brewster Gilbert, Walter Gilbert, Fletcher Gilbert and Clifton Gilbert. She has also joined Mattie Duncan and Mildred Sprinkle, two women who were like sisters to her.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Cox (Carol), Gerald Cox (Dotty) and Gary Cox (Sheree); grandchildren, Mike Cox (Amy), Shaun Cox (Amy), Kellie Cox, Addy Burgi, Kevin Cox and Rachel Johnson; great-grandchildren, Michael Cox (Jessica), Cameron Cox (Nikki), Austin Cox, Lexy Cox, Taylor Johnson, Hannah Burgi and Ellie Burgi; great-great-grandchildren, Hudson Cox, Harlyn Cox, Eric Cox and Ryan Cox; several wonderful nieces, nephews and close family friends.

She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed but remembered for her kindness, humor and good heart.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm Friday, February 28, 2020 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be 2:30 pm Friday at Keller's Chapel Cemetery with Rick Clark officiating.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Chris Crews, Jeremy Walker, Richard Burton, Larry Ransone, Rondell Gilbert and Scott Simino.
