Riney
January 9, 1941 – January 25, 2025
Alvin Eugene Riney, 84, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed peacefully into his heavenly home on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
Born on January 9, 1941, to the late Leo Riney and Lena Doris Brown Riney in Randolph County, Alvin was a man of deep faith, a devoted family member, and a hard-working individual. Alvin served our country in the United States Army National Guard. He spent 36 years working at Brown Shoe, later transitioning into a successful career as a carpenter, where his craftsmanship and dedication to his work were admired by many.
Alvin was a true sports enthusiast, particularly passionate about the St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins. His love for the outdoors was evident in his avid deer hunting trips, where he enjoyed making lasting memories with family and friends. Alvin's heart and soul were also deeply rooted in his faith as a faithful member of Sutton Free Will Baptist Church. For many years, he joyfully sang in the church choir, contributing his voice to worship with devotion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mildred Grimes, Wynona Carol, Dorothy Lindsay, Bernice Lindsay, and Thomas Riney, as well as his beloved grandson, Travis Redwine. Alvin was also preceded by his sister-in-law, Vada Riney, and his brother-in-law, Floyd Grissom.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of many years, Mary Ann Riney, his daughter Eugenia Riney, and his great-grandson Rider Lee Redwine. He also leaves behind his brother, Melvin Riney, and sister, Bertha Grissom, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will remember him fondly.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Sutton Free Will Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Kevin Barnett. Burial will take place at Randolph Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The following individuals are honored to serve as pallbearers: Chris Palmer, Joey McDowell, Chad Chester, Danny Barr, Joe Ragsdell, and Tommy Drury. The honorary pallbearer is Rick Goff.
All services are entrusted to the care of McNabb Funeral Home.
