Obituary

LITTLE ROCK-Alma Irene (Pryor) Means, 91, died May 15th. Mrs. Means graduated from North Little Rock High in 1935 and went on to become a register nurse at St. Vincent's in Little Rock. She continued her education at Vanderbilt and throughout her career. She was a nurse for more than sixty-five years and had a varied and interesting career in AR, GA and OH. She served as Randolph County health nurse for many years, was Director of Nursing for several local nursing homes, and was a representative for the Tuberculosis Association for half the state of Arkansas. She was also instrumental in establishing support groups for the Mentally Handicapped Association of Arkansas. Anyone who knew Irene would describe her as intelligent, energetic and high-spirited. We will miss those qualities now that she is gone. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, "Red" Means, and three sisters, Sue Brink, Pauline Pantett and "Coe" Caple. She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Sherwood of Little Rock, a brother, Bill Pryor of Cabot, three nieces, Paula Johnson and Faye Archer of Little Rock, and Ramona Hatley of Maumelle, two nephews, Lavon Pryor of Cabot and Gerald Fitzgerald of Benton. Services will be at 2pm Saturday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Sherman Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1-2 Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care, 1501 N. University, Little Rock, AR, or the Alzheimer Association, 7509 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, AR 72202
