Obituary

Jonesboro- Alma Broadaway Burk, 94, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born May 29, 1922 in Jonesboro to the late W. E. and Loda Broadaway. She was raised in Jonesboro and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1939 and at 6 feet in height she was a star basketball player. She married F. A. "Chick" in 1940 and enjoyed fifty-eight years together. She served the Lord as a member of Central Baptist Church for over fifty years as pastor's secretary and church clerk. She also served in WMU, Vacation Bible School, and Training Union leader and as a teacher for the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of First Baptist Church for seven years. She retired from Harrison Construction where she worked as a secretary. She enjoyed sewing for her granddaughters and crocheting.

She also preceded in death by her husband, F. A. "Chick" Burk; two brothers, Beely and Stanley Broadaway.

She is survived by her children, Mike Burk and Linda Scivally both of Little Rock, Betsy Coleman of Marvell and Mark Burk of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Audria Foran of Marvell, Theda Coleman of Holly Grove, Amy Scivally, Robyn Cartwright and Louis Scivally all of Little Rock and Andy Burk of Shannon Hills; five great-grandchildren, Brady Foran and Garrett Foran both of Marvell, Cole Caldwell of Holly Grove, Matt Burk of Shannon Hills and Sara Beth Pierce of Little Rock; a brother, Ernest Broadaway Jr. of Jonesboro and a sister, Martha Secrease of Jonesboro.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be 12:30 pm Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until noon Thursday at Gregg- Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Andy Burk, Guy Bell, Brady Foran, Cole Caldwell, Garrett Foran and Kelly Hogan.

In lieu of flowers, lasting memorials may be sent to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
