Obituary

Jonesboro- My dad, Allen Young, formally of Bay Village, went home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2026. He was born in Bismark, Missouri, on May 20, 1935, to Anthony and Lottie Smith Young.

Dad lived his 90 years with a steady faith, a strong work ethic, and a deep love for God, his family, and his friends.

Just three days before his passing, mom and dad celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary, having married on March 14, 1953. My mom, Edith Davis Young, was the love of his life, and their long, faithful marriage is one of the greatest testaments to the kind of man he was.

Dad provided for us in every way we needed. He worked with his hands all his life and didn’t slow down until he retired at 62. He taught me the value of hard work, honesty, and doing right by people. He loved family gatherings, time with friends, and the simple joy of being together.

He was happiest outdoors, hunting, fishing, raising his garden, or just enjoying God’s creation. And if he had a guitar in his hands, you could count on hearing him sing. Those moments are memories I will always hold close.

Dad is survived by his wife, Edith Young, one son, James Robert Young of Jonesboro, his sister Ethel Marie Umfleet of Fredericktown, MO, as well as four grandchildren, three great‑grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, all of whom carry a piece of his love and legacy.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Loretta Gail Vincent; his brothers Trumann Edward Young, Robert Charles Young, and Harold Gene Young, as well as two sisters Matilda Whitworth, and Catherine Brown.

A visitation will be held at Gregg‑Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Steven Mabry officiating. Dad will be laid to rest in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.

We will miss dad more than words can express. But I know where he is. He’s with the Lord, and because of God’s promise through Jesus Christ, we will see him again. That hope brings comfort even in our sorrow.

Thanks be to God our Father and the Lord Jesus for the gift of dad’s life and the promise of reunion.
