Obituary

Monette- Alice Murelene McFarlin, 79, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

She was born January 30, 1939 in Neelyville, Missouri to the late William and Bertha Dixon McCollum. Alice exemplified a life of dignity and strength. She spent her life in quiet contemplation while busying her hands with productive activities. While young and raising her children she spent her days not only tending to her home and raising responsible children but also working alongside of her husband, Dean. She was the partner that encouraged him to believe in himself and greater things. Together they built a thriving local tire business and became a valuable asset to Monette and the surrounding communities. If you asked any farmer in the community if they knew Alice, they would say, Yes, she is the hardest working woman I ever saw.

Alice never wasted a moment of her life. Always busy, you would find Alice working in her yard in the early mornings, tending to her home and family, cooking or crafting with her grandchildren, or crocheting or crafting gifts for family and friends. Yet, in her business, Alice never failed to stop what she was doing in order to take time for and to listen to others. She was one of those rare women who understood how to truly listen and respond to another's heart and held people over tasks with highest priority. Somehow she understood the rest would wait and workout.

Alice was also quick to laugh and a women of few words but when she spoke it was with wisdom and kindness. Her life is proof of a woman can be kind, gentle and strong at the same time. Her quiet strength will be missed by all who loved her and drew confidence from her.

She is survived by her children, James McFarlin and Murelene Walker both of Monette; six grandchildren, Darrin McFarlin of Pensacola, FL, Makensie Walker of Conway, Jenny Walker of Fayetteville, Blake Smithee of Monette, Kelly Walker of Jonesboro and Tina Walker Roeland of Queensland, Australia; three brothers and four sisters.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dean McFarlin; three brothers, Willis, Jerry and Larry McCollum; a sister, Nettie Allen.

A graveside service will be 1:30 pm Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Monette Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Interment will follow.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
