Alfred Daniel
Metheny
June 21, 1944 – February 8, 2025
Trumann-Alfred Daniel Metheny, 80, passed from this life on February 8, 2025, at his home.
He was born on June 21, 1944, in Paragould to the late Alfred and Govia Morrow Metheny. He honorably served in the United States Air Force when he was seventeen years old and proudly served in Germany as a Firefighter during the Vietnam War era. After his return from Germany, he graduated from Arkansas State University. Dan had a passion for reading and studying his Bible. He served as a minister for many years but ultimately worked as a sales agent for Allstate Insurance in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Dan and his wife Jane raised their children near the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. After retirement, he brought his wife home to Arkansas to be near her beloved parents and siblings. In the summer you could always catch him working on his lawn, catching the rays, sitting in the lawn chair, or reading a book.
Mr. Metheny is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Jane Dillin Metheny of the home; son: Steven Daniel Metheny of Trumann; two brothers: Stephen Brance (Barbara) Metheny and Julian (Judith) Metheny of Alabama; sisters: Mara (Jerry) Landers and Gayle Hard of Alabama; Dan felt a special bond with his Aunt Leah Kate ( Morrow) Smith of Paragould; and many nieces, nephews who he loved being an uncle to, and cousins who loved him dearly. His heart would melt when he received chocolate candy from his step-granddaughter Alena Ovchinnikova and her mother Elena Masalkina.
In addition to his parents, he was sadly preceded in death by his beloved daughter Tara Brooke Metheny.
Following and respecting his wishes, there will be a graveside service held on Friday February 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with his lifelong best friend Steve and baby brother Julian officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be his son Daniel and nephews.
All services will be under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
