Greenbrier- Aaron Dean Purtee, 88, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023 at his home. He was born into the family of William R. and Rosalie Purtee on March 2, 1935, in Jonesboro. He spent the first 20 years in Jonesboro and attended Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State College before moving to Bethany, Oklahoma. He met Iva McNabb, and they were married in March of 1957.

Aaron served in the US Army from November 1957 until retirement in March 1980. He and his wife and two daughters, were stationed in numerous locations, including Europe and Hawaii.  He served in Vietnam and Korea.  During his Army years, he completed a Bachelor's degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Master's degree in Medical Technology from St. Louis, Missouri in 2000.  He was employed by the VA Hospital in Atlanta.

During retirement years, he and Iva made eight international mission trips to Bulgaria – Estonia and other international locations. Aaron enjoyed traveling & Iva loved gardening and reading. As an active member of the Methodist Church, he lived out his beliefs.

In 2012, Aaron & Iva moved to Greenbrier and lived near relatives with their two little dogs.

Aaron is survived by his wife Iva of 66 years; two daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Nester of Texas and Suzanne Purtee of Washington; grandson, Walter  of Texas, three sisters, Jeanette (Bobby) Baker of Arkansas, Nellinda (Dave) Hintz of Michigan and Sharon (Edwin) Cook of Oklahoma; one brother, Dwight Purtee of Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023 at Gregg- Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with Rev. Nathan Kilbourne officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.

The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
